Wedding day stress

The happiest day of your life can also be one of the most stressful. After many years of working as a Christian Minister and performing my fair share of weddings I have picked up one or two tips that you might find helpful for your big day.

1. Use the rehersal to prepare

Many couples come to a rehersal seeing it as just something to do before the big day. The rehersal is your chance to run through what you will be doing and where you have to do it. This is the time to ask questions and make mistakes. If you are having trouble repeating the vows then ask the Mininster/Vicar to split them up into smaller chunks. Vicars are used to people getting nervous so rely on them to help you through.

2. Don't have your stag night/hen party the day before you marry

The last thing you want on your big day is to be feeling hungover or even worse drunk from the night before. Trying to get things right when your brain won't work right is planning for disaster.

3. Avoid the pub on the day until after the important things are done.

I'm not trying to be a spoilsport but alcohol is not a good way to manage stress and nervousness. The old dutch courage doesn't really work and this is a time to respect the person you are going to marry by being on your best behaviour. Save the alcohol for later.

4. Remember that everyone is on your side.

The people who have come to see you get married are there because they want you to have a long and happy life. They are your friends and family who want you to have a wonderful day. If you make a mistake it will just add to the enjoyment of the day itself.

5. Brides are always beautiful and grooms handsome

On your wedding day you will look wonderful no matter what you wear. The cost of your clothes or their colour is only to show off the wonderful you inside them. Beauty goes beyond what you physically look like let your beauty shine through as you enjoy the day.
